I get asked all the time where couples should even start looking. Honestly? Southern Germany spoils you for choice — from centuries-old estates to clean, modern spaces tucked straight into nature. But what actually makes a venue special isn't the architecture or the view alone. It's the feeling it holds. Serene or lively. Open or intimate. Minimalist or expressive.
I've had the chance to shoot at some of these already, and I've had my eye on the rest for a while now — each one leaves me with a completely different feeling in my chest just thinking about it. If you're the kind of couple who chooses consciously — who wants your wedding to be more than a single afternoon, but an entire experience stretched over several days — these five answer the same question in five very different ways: what does our day actually feel like?
Burg Schwarzenstein — Space, Structure & Clean Elegance
The first time I stood on the terrace at Burg Schwarzenstein, looking out over the vineyards of the Rheingau, I genuinely forgot I was supposed to be working. This place feels less like a wedding venue and more like a retreat with a view that never stops giving.
What makes it special to me:
A long table set outdoors, right beneath the grapevines

A calm, elegant atmosphere from the first toast to the last
Morrhof — A Mediterranean Feeling in the Heart of the Palatinate
This one is on my list to shoot at soon, and everything I've seen of it makes me understand why couples fall for it instantly. Between the inner courtyards and the cypress trees, it looks like it genuinely forgot it's in Germany — more like a summer somewhere further south.
What makes it special:

La Villa on Lake Starnberg — Peace, Light & Lightness
I haven't shot here yet, but it's high on my list — there's something about a location right on the water that changes everything about the light, and at La Villa, architecture and nature seem to be in constant, quiet conversation with each other.
What makes it special:
A location directly on the lake, with light bouncing off the water all day

Schlossgut Lautenbach — Closeness, History & Intimacy
Some venues try to impress you. From everything I've seen of Schlossgut Lautenbach, it doesn't — it simply leaves you room to breathe, and that's exactly why it's on my list.
What makes it special:
Historic buildings surrounded by untouched, natural grounds
An abundance of greenery and quiet
The option to say your vows inside the Glass House, with nature visible on every side — one of the most intimate ceremony settings I've come across
Hotel Wildbad Rothenburg — A castle in the Forest
Hidden deep in the forest, Wildbad Rothenburg ob der Tauber feels like its own small world — the kind of place you have to walk into to actually believe.
What makes it special to me:
A setting fully immersed in nature
Historic architecture full of character
The chance to marry by the water, beneath the arcade — one of my favorite backdrops
In the End, It's Not About the "Most Beautiful" Venue
Every one of these five places holds a completely different feeling. Some are open and expansive, others hushed and intimate. Some hum with life, others hold you in near-total stillness.
None of them is more "right" than the others — and honestly, I couldn't pick a favorite if you asked me to. The only question that matters is which one feels like you.
